About
Local Current Journal is an independent editorial publication about reading the city through the places people use and pass every day. We focus on geography in plain sight: street layouts, public spaces, landmarks, and the names that stick to neighbourhoods.
What we cover
Our subjects are close at hand but easy to overlook. We look at why streets meet as they do, what makes a public space inviting to cross or linger in, how landmarks help people orient themselves, and what place names can reveal without pretending that a name tells the whole story.
Who it is for
The publication is for curious residents, regular commuters, visitors, and anyone who wants to notice more about a city without needing specialist knowledge. Each piece aims to offer a useful way of looking, not an authoritative account of every local detail.
How we approach place
We favour clear explanations, careful distinctions, and examples readers can recognise in their own surroundings. Local places differ, so we separate broad ideas from claims that would need checking on the ground. We do not present our articles as substitutes for local rules, official information, or expert assessment.
A city is more than its map.
We pay attention to the details that make places legible: a street's shape, a square's layout, or a name that has outlasted its original meaning.
